An NFC tag is embedded inside the print. When tapped with a compatible NFC-enabled smartphone, it performs the action selected during checkout.
Each tag is made to order, programmed, tested, and personalized before shipping.

The user must still confirm the call. The tag does not automatically place a call.
The phone is directed to open a new text message addressed to the selected emergency contact.

For the production version, I would use PETG rather than standard PLA. PETG is a better fit for something that will be handled frequently, dropped, left in vehicles, and exposed to outdoor conditions.
