Our Program

At Megan’s Country Childcare, we believe childhood should be filled with dirt under little fingernails, sunshine on faces, and the freedom to discover what they are capable of.

We are a play-based outdoor farm daycare where children spend their days exploring nature, caring for animals, growing food, creating, and learning through real experiences.

Here, learning does not happen only while sitting at a table. It happens while collecting eggs, planting seeds, baking bread, building forts, caring for animals, and asking a hundred questions along the way.

Learning Through Farm Life

Our farm is home to chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, goats, pigs, and other animals. Children have opportunities to participate in their daily care by gathering eggs, helping with feeding, observing life cycles, and learning how to treat living things with patience and respect.

These everyday experiences help children build compassion, responsibility, confidence, and an understanding that their contributions matter.

From the Garden to the Table

Our gardens are just as much a classroom as our indoor and outdoor play spaces.

Children help plant vegetables, water seedlings, pull weeds, harvest produce, and enjoy the satisfaction of eating food they helped grow. Throughout the seasons, we also use the harvest to make simple foods such as bread, jam, applesauce, and pickles.

Along the way, children learn where food comes from while practicing patience, cooperation, problem-solving, and practical life skills.

Play With Purpose

Play is at the heart of everything we do.

Children climb, jump, dig, balance, carry, build, imagine, solve problems, and create games together. We provide supervised, age-appropriate opportunities for children to challenge themselves, explore their physical abilities, and develop sound judgment.

Through active outdoor play, children learn to:

  • Build confidence in their abilities

  • Understand their strengths and physical limits

  • Improve balance, coordination, and body awareness

  • Practice critical thinking and problem-solving

  • Work through frustration and challenges

  • Develop independence and resilience

  • Cooperate, negotiate, and communicate with others

  • Experience the pride of accomplishing something on their own

We believe children do not need constant entertainment. They need meaningful experiences.

They need mud puddles and gardens. Animals and open spaces. Sticks that become fishing poles, forts, tools, or fairy houses. They need opportunities to contribute, explore, make mistakes, solve problems, and discover that they are capable.

More Than Kindergarten Readiness

Our goal is not simply to prepare children for kindergarten.

Our goal is to help raise kind, curious, resilient human beings who trust their bodies, think creatively, care for the world around them, and approach new experiences with confidence.

We want children to leave here knowing how to gather an egg, plant a tomato, bake a loaf of bread, comfort an animal, solve a problem, help a friend, and believe in themselves.

Because we believe the very best classroom has no walls.

  • No. Diapers, pullups, and wet-wipes are provided through a parent lead volunteer system when needed.

Meet Megan!

Hi! I’m Megan, the owner of Megan’s Country Childcare, a licensed large family childcare located on our little farm in Hughson, California.

As a mom of six and a childcare provider for over 15 years, I’ve learned that children thrive when they’re trusted to explore, create, and discover the world around them. That’s why I created a play-based outdoor program where childhood is filled with animals, gardens, muddy boots, and meaningful experiences.

Our days are spent collecting eggs, caring for farm animals, growing food, baking bread, climbing trees, building confidence, and making memories. I believe children learn best by doing, and my goal is to provide a safe, loving environment where every child feels capable, curious, and deeply connected to nature.

At Megan’s Country Childcare, enrollment is about more than simply filling an available space. Because openings are limited, all prospective families are required to complete an in-person interview before enrollment.

This meeting gives you the opportunity to tour our home, ask questions, and determine whether our program is the right fit for your child. It also allows me to get to know your family, your parenting style, and your child’s personality and needs.

Just as you are interviewing me, I am also interviewing prospective families. My goal is to create a close-knit community where children feel safe, respected, and supported, and where families share similar values regarding kindness, communication, outdoor play, and respectful behavior.

Not every childcare program is the right fit for every family, and that’s okay. Taking the time to ensure we are a good match helps create a positive experience for everyone—your child, your family, the children already enrolled, and our daycare community as a whole.
