Give a good old textile another job.
The Heritage Apron started with a simple idea: instead of cutting the character out of an old tablecloth, build the apron around it.
This full-coverage work apron has a shaped bib, two roomy square pockets, a contrast yoke, long waist ties, and a neck strap that is fitted to the wearer. The straight lower edge is especially useful for vintage tablecloths because it can preserve an existing border or finished hem instead of cutting it away.
You do not need a vintage tablecloth to make it. The pattern also works with light- to medium-weight woven cotton, cotton-linen blends, linen, chambray, and similar stable woven fabrics.

This is a digital sewing pattern. No finished apron, fabric, or physical pattern will be shipped.
Skill level
Confident beginner.
The construction uses straight stitching, narrow hems, patch pockets, simple strap construction, and basic pattern assembly. A first apron should take about 2 to 3 hours, depending on sewing experience and the textile you are working with.
Finished measurements
Overall length: about 29 in
Top yoke width: about 10 1/2 in
Finished hem width: about 27 in
Finished pockets: about 7 1/2 x 7 1/8 in
Waist ties: about 35 in usable length each
Neck strap: up to about 29 in before fitting
This is an apron rather than a fitted garment. The long waist ties and fit-to-you neck strap provide adjustment. If you prefer more room, the ties or neck strap can be lengthened before cutting.
Fabric
For a reclaimed-textile version:
Main textile: approximately 30 x 38 in of clean usable tablecloth for the body and pockets
Contrast textile: 1/2 yd of 44 in fabric for the yoke, neck strap, and waist ties
Using yardage instead:
Main fabric: 1 1/4 yd of 44 in fabric
Contrast fabric: 1/2 yd of 44 in fabric
Or approximately 1 1/2 yd of 44 in fabric when making the apron from one fabric
The instructions also cover working around stains and weak areas, preserving an existing tablecloth border, placing decorative motifs, and reinforcing fragile attachment areas when needed.

Print pattern pieces at 100% or Actual Size. Both inch and metric calibration boxes are included so you can confirm the scale before printing the entire pattern.
Designed for reclaimed textiles
The pattern includes specific guidance for making the most of an existing textile instead of treating it like ordinary yardage.
You can preserve a finished tablecloth border at the lower hem, position a larger corner motif intentionally, repeat border details in the pockets or straps, and reinforce only the areas that actually need extra support.
That is really the point of this pattern: use what is already good about the textile instead of cutting all of its history away.

You may sell finished aprons that you personally make from this pattern in small quantities.
Factory production is not permitted. The PDF files, pattern pieces, diagrams, and written instructions may not be copied, posted, shared, translated for distribution, or resold. Credit to Half Dozen & One is appreciated but not required.
